Lil Shauna is All Good

Other than the fever that almost came back on Sunday evening, Lil Shauna was pretty good. She was given MC from Monday to Wednesday and was totally enjoying life on Monday. I was fortunately able to WFH and most times, I saw her lying somewhere tik toking on her phone. Her appetite was great and energy high. Maybe I had hallucinated about what happened on Saturday.

She went back to sleep in her room on Monday evening. My back was very thankful to her. I checked on her before I left for work on Tuesday morning. All good and uneventful. I came home late evening and Popo told me that Lil Shauna was absolutely well, snacking constantly.

She asked to go back to school on Wednesday, claiming that she had missed so much school and her friends were waiting for her to go back. I think it is the latter. Zaky cannot understand why jiejie would want to do that. Hoho.

It all went well. She even dated her netball mate for lunch after school and didn't come home until about 5pm. She had SISA and I tagged along, wanting to make sure that all went went. It did. She complained of headache after class, not bcos of the episode but from too much spinning. Hoho.

So, all good! I have started my bag packing for Genting. Hohoho.

A Very Dramatic Day Part 3

We showered and were getting ready for bed when Uncle C called bcos we didn't reply to his message. He heard the news from Auntie H and was worried. He wanted to rule out Increased Intracranial Pressure (ICP, aka brain swelling) and asked us how many of the list of symptoms (in his message) was Lil Shauna displaying/ displayed. ICP is a serious condition and is life threatening.

He was asking if NUH did any MRI and helped called his brain surgeon friend in SGH. Bcos Lil Shauna is younger that 18, if really an ICP, she needs to go to KKH. Anyway, while we all think that the possibility of an ICP is not high, I was very unsettled. Lil Shauna was way too exhausted and was already in lala land. We made everybody sleep in the same room with Lil Shauna on the mattress on the floor and me joining her on mattress.

The plan was to monitor her. I asked how and what while she is asleep - oxygen level, heart rate and BP at 3 hourly interval. Thankfully, I have the right machines for these at home. After scaring me, Uncle C then told me that it was probably an infection and nothing much. Zzzzzz.

I went to bed at 12mn and I started wondering if I should stay awake until 2am for the 1st monitoring session. I was equally exhausted and decided to check at 1am and scheduled the next one for 4am. The stats were fine both times. Lil Shauna was very cooperative.

It was a restless night for me; I woke up to her every movement. Each time she stirred, I woke up and was thankful that I had checked that she was OK. When Zaky went to the toilet, I woke up too to make sure that he didn't step on jiejie. I was again up when Daddy Lim woke up to prep for their rollerblading classes.

The boys left and we took the bed. We woke up at 9ish and I was very glad to hear that Lil Shauna was feeling better (in fact normal). She was definitely with more energy that the previous day.

The day went well. She was able to eat normally and went out with us. Throughout the day, I was fussing over her, constantly checking that she was feeling OK.

She did complain of headaches on several occasions. The worse was in the evening; we suspected that the fever was coming back. Fortunately, panadol saved the day and she felt better thereafter. The only thing was her missing the BBQ session that was organised by the LV cyclists that I once joined. She was so looking forward to roasting marshmallows. Hoho.

Last night's sleeping arrangement was Lil Shauna on Zaky's bed while I squeezed with Zaky on the mattress on the floor. My back!

This cannot go on for long. I asked Zaky if it was squeezy last night and he said yes and commented that he saw me sleeping on the floor. Hahaha.

I am just glad that Lil Shauna is OK and looking forward for things to return to the norm.

A Very Dramatic Day Part 2

Lil Shauna was leaning on the lift wall the whole time and looking tired. I got out of the lift, then heard Daddy Lim called for me. I turned around and saw Lil Shauna sitting on the lift floor. I decided to send her home while Daddy Lim and Zaky continued to wait at B1.

She managed to stand up when asked. I was hugging her and was asking her what happened. She then complained that she cannot see, like everything is blurry kind of cannot see. Then everything happened in a split second. While I was still hugging her (luckily I was), I left her body weight slumming onto me. It was when I heard her phone slammed onto the floor that I realised that she had lost consciousness. When I looked at her, I thought I saw that her eyes were opened (or half opened).

We reached the 10th floor shortly and I tried dragging her out of the lift, thinking that I had a better chance in getting help outside than inside the lift. Her body was stiff but with all the dragging, I couldn't tell if she was jerking, like in a seizure. It was a bad situation. I was sitting on the floor outside the lift, with Lil Shauna half leaning on me. Her one foot was blocking the lift door, one slipper and hp still in the lift. I tried hard yelling for Popo for help, who heard the commotion but totally ignored me, thinking that it was some child play.

Thankfully, Lil Shauna regained consciousness. She was out for like less than a min. I made her sit properly, grabbed her slipper and hp and called Daddy Lim to quickly come back up. I knew we had to get her to the A&E and decided to call 995 to check if an ambulance was the appropriate choice or for us to send her on our own. The operator arranged for an ambulance and asked us to call again if Lil Shauna blacked out again. While waiting, I asked if Lil Shauna knew what happened. She said that she fell asleep. She was so pale and her lips were purplish.

Daddy Lim and Zaky came back up. The 2 of us then carried Lil Shauna back home to rest on the sofa. She started describing how she had tunneling vision, her vision turned yellow/ brownish before she blacked out. She said she had ringing in the ears after the episode. These sounded like familiar symptoms that I get when I felt like fainting. Lil Shauna started perspiring profusely, just like how I was the last time.

The ambulance came in less than 10 mins. They did a finger prick and ECG and then sent her to NUH. I again got the honor to ride the ambulance ride. The ride was swift but the stay at NUH was the opposite.

Lil Shauna was very tired. I think it was the fever, lack of food and fainting experience. Bcos it is covid, her fever made everything complicated. After the initial BP and temperature taking, we were told that she needed to be isolated. At the isolated holding ward, she was given the clearance to go to the treatment/ waiting ward. Actually, I dont know where we were heading bcos we were stopped. They refused to accept her bcos of the fever unless she was cleared by a senior doctor (which she was not) and we were sent back to the isolation holding ward.

Back there, we were then sent to another holding ward when they checked and found a bed. We arrived only to be told that there was no bed. Zzzzzzz. She could sit in a wheelchair and wait. I refused. Lil Shauna was so tired, drifting in and out of sleep and I cannot see how she can sit in a wheelchair for who knows how long. All I know is that it would be a super long wait and that all the doctors and nurses that we had met thus far were very black faced and fierce. Sob.

We were eventually sent back to the isolation holding ward. The same isolation ward nurse came and this time, nicely explained that they didn't want her at the isolation ward if possible as the patients there may have some nasty infectious diseases. Since we wanted a bed, it appeared that going back was the only option and I took that. Even the ambulance staff were rolling eyes at the whole episode.

After 1 hour, we finally settled down at the isolation ward. I know that what's ahead was a lot of waiting. After maybe 15 mins, the nurses pricked her finger and took her ECG again. Hmmm... apparently there is no effective communication from the time we boarded the ambulance. Then it was a very long wait. Lil Shauna was drifting in and out of sleep. Luckily she had a bed.

2.5 hours after we arrived at NUH, Lil Shauna was finally seen by a doctor. She asked questions, made some checkups and think that she probably fainted than seizure as seizure has no telling signs prior. I was suspecting dengue but she had none of the rashes that are typical with dengue. As for the next steps, the doctor had to discuss with the senior doctor before she can advise.

It was back to more waiting but miraculously, without any intervention, Lil Shauna's energy was coming back. She asked for her phone and started messaging and watching netflix. I decided to buy some food, hoping that she would be able to eat some.

She did and finally commented that she felt hungry. This was like music to my ears. She had asked for something sweet and I got her sugared donut balls with hazelnut chocolate filling. So super sweet lor and she happily down 2 balls and shared my wrap.

The doctor came back to draw her blood to check for dengue and blood count and did an ART. The blood test results would take an hour.

The ART turned out -ve. Another nurse came to take her BP lying down and standing up. While on the lower side, her BP was normal. It was finally almost 11pm that the doctor came back with news that all the tests were cleared. So what exactly happened? Nobody knows and she looked well enough for further tests to be needed. It is probably some viral infection and she could faint for various reasons, like random sugar level drop, lack of food, whatever.

Lil Shauna was dying to go home to rest. With covid, the doctor seems to be eager to send people home if no further medical attention is needed. Daddy Lim was already on standby to pick us.

Bcos we forgot her slippers and I am still very worried about her being too weak, she had a luxurious wheelchair ride to the pickup area. Finally..  going home.

A Very Dramatic Day Part 1

It all started at 1am Saturday morning. I was awoken by Lil Shauna at the doorway, telling me miserably that she had "fell down". I thought she had rolled off/ fell from her bunk bed and asked if she had hurt herself. She then said that she had vomited. I panic a little, thinking that she had hurt her head/ concussion thus vomited. She clarified that she didn't fall, she simply threw up.

Only when I went to her room, I was totally awoken by the sight. She vomited, a lot.....from her bunk bed onto the floor. The vomit then splashed everywhere with the impact. OK, tmi, I shall cut the description. I spent the next hour, wiping vomit, wiping floor and wall with floor cleaner and dettol. By the time Popo witnessed the crime scene, majority had been cleared up. So I had her complaining in the background non-stop and my blood boiling by the seconds.

I was finally done at 2am. Lil Shauna was sent to sleep with Daddy Lim, who sleepily asked if she was OK. #thatiswhycelebrateMother'sday Her room, though cleaned, stunk so badly. Then I had Popo who insisted that she must wipe the floor, wall and door once more but with wet wipes and water. I must have some miraculously powerful water at home. I don't care anymore.

I tried going to bed at 2am but was wide awake. It wasn't 3am that I went back to lala land. I was jolted awake at 5.37am for the 6am WWF ride. In a record time of 9 mins, I managed to get out of the house, cycled like mad and reached the start off point on time.

I arrived home to a very lethargic Lil Shauna who was feverish. She complained of a tummy ache and I had assumed that she had a stomach-flu. She was tested -ve on the ART. She spent the afternoon lying in various locations and very low in energy. She didn't bother to even use her phone; she must be feeling really bad.

While she rested at home, I brought Zaky to JP for lunch and arcade. She had initially wanted to tag along but changed her mind the last min bcos she was too tired.

We bought home mushroom soup from soup spoon but Lil Shauna had zero appetite. She reluctantly took 5 spoonfuls before flopping on the sofa for the rest of the afternoon.

In the evening, we wanted to go out for dinner. Lil Shauna wanted to tag along. I had thought that it would be good for her to get some fresh air. We got ready, got into the lift and the most traumatic lift ride of our life time.

Calling In Sick

Remembered how Lil Shauna was having a tummyache that suddenly disappeared on Sunday? She didn't complain about any pain for the rest of the Sunday. I assumed that everything was fine.

On Monday, she called me at 12noon from the school general office complaining of many different aches. Zzzzzz. It was lunch time and I was counting my lucky star when I managed to get Daddy Lim on the line and he ended up doing the ferrying. He is afterall the one with the car or I have to call cab to do the round trip. Heng ah.
I was feeling a little guilty for doubting the girl. Maybe she was really sick on Sunday and the evil mummy totally ignored her.

She was quietly watching the iPad when we were home in the evening, giving us the sick puppy look intermittently. However, Popo said that she was very well the whole afternoon and there was no fever. Lil Shauna chose to go to bed at 8pm that night. Was she really sick? Gosh, I have no idea.

On Tuesday morning, I woke her up for school and asked if she was up for it. It is either she stayed home or stayed in school the whole day; it is painful to arrange to pick her midday. The nice rainy morning must have helped. She immediately whimpered something about tummyache, pulled up the blanket and continued to sleep. Haha, what a clever choice. I emailed her teacher to ask that she be excused.

Was she really sick? When Daddy Lim and I reached home yday evening, the kids were happily playing basketball with the other kids. Ya, sick… When they were finally home, Lil Shauna was all bouncy and happy and was in a yelling fight with Zaky. She was full of vigor, what tummyache? Popo said that she didn't make a single complaint at all the entire day.

In the evening, she was so gamed when I asked her to practice her program. She even enthusiastically initiated to do her stretching exercises and allowed me to help her stretch in her spiral position. I am just glad that the kids are healthy and I am so happy to see her passion for ice skating burning up; it must be the competition effect.

Zaky also enthusiastically stretched with jiejie and he is so much flexible. He can almost do the split!

Maybe that is why Teacher Raymond is so encouraging about Zaky picking up ice skating. There aren’t many boys who do figure skating and it is easy to win in most competitions bcos there are so few participants. For now, Zaky seemed to have made the choice towards his TKD. Ice skating can probably wait. Let’s see.

Sick Ah!

Lil Shauna finally went back to school after a massive bout of what seems like common flu to me. The fever monster plagued her for 5 days. What started off as a mild fever on Saturday night escalated to a 40.1 degrees fever at one point but I was told that it was immediately after her nap. It made me doubts the reliability of the thermometer too.

We attempted to self-medicate and brought her to the doctor on Monday evening, just in case it wasn’t the normal cough and flu that my mummy instinct tells me. The doctor diagnosed as “upper respiratory infection”. Yes, a very chim word for cough and flu but cough and flu nevertheless.

Yday, she was definitely on the road of recovery and needed 3 doses of the fever medicine. The intervals between the fevers are getting longer; a tell-tale sign of recovery. In the last 5 days, she polished off 1.5 bottles of paracetamol. Her cough still sounded horrible. It started as dry cough and the poor girl kept coughing every 2 sec in attempts to sooth her itchy throat. The doctor did prescribe a powerful cough mixture that knocks her out in the night, giving her the much needed rest. This morning, the cough appears to turn into the wet cough. My mummy instinct says that it will take many more days for the cough to go away. I am the “family” doctor.

This morning, she woke up fever free after the last dosage of fever medicine at 12 mn. She looked ok and was back to her chirpy self. Taking no chance, I gave her fever, cough and running nose medicine before sending her to school. She has been away from school for too long; the potato couching is not doing her well. I told her that she can inform her teacher if she doesn't feel well and I will pick her up from school. An extension of the protective mummy instinct, I emailed the teacher too, asking her to be excused from PE and left my number, just in case. She could skip student care tomorrow too. I think the long hours will be too taxing. To that, she broke into a smile. Aiyo.

As expected, I received her call during lunch. She said that the headache was coming back and she measured a mild fever. I took a cab to school to pick her and send her home before coming back to the office. I think she is recovering. Hopefully, I don't have to spend $$ on cab tomorrow. Huat ah!

One More Down

Lil Isaac is finally free from fever since yday. What is left is just plenty of phlegm and a very whinny kid, like how they always are when recovering. But at least there is no more fever and I didn't have to worry that it is something more than a flu. He missed quite some school and classes as a result and we busied ourselves with make-up classes.

At the back of my mind, I had been wondering if Lil Shauna would catch the virus. I was keeping my fingers crossed. Just when all seemed to be good, Lil Shauna started whimpering like a puppy in the middle of last night and complained of pain behind the knee. The pain was soothed with some yoko yoko. This morning, she woke me up and complained of headache and backache. She always complained of headache when she has a fever. Oh no...

She measured 37.7 degrees and her temperature slowly climbed. She has ice skating class, followed by phonics class in the afternoon. I dread the thought of more makeup classes.

Eventually, I gave her medicine and we continued with ice skating class. Her fever came back up just before her class but she pressed on. Poor girl.

She was way too tired to continue with her phonics. She had wanted to press on bcos it then meant that we could meet up with Boo boo in the afternoon. However, the body is weak and she eventually chose to go home to rest instead.

I hope she feels better with the rest. I hope even more that her fever will break soon. Why both kids have to fall sick when I am going away? It will be hard on Popo and Daddy Lim. Popo had been complaining to me. What can I do? Sob. Oh ya, I just at least I could go to the pharmacy to stock up the medicine.

Sick while in School

Maybe bcos the kindergarten school is only 3 hours or Popo kept the kids in if they weren't feeling good enuff for school, we never have the school call us up to inform about sick kids or to bring them home... until today.

I received a call from school at 3.30pm. I was about to start a meeting. Ms Teo, the form teacher called to inform that Lil Shauna complained of a headache and asked if we would like to bring her home early. I didn't know schools are so nice now. Anyway, Daddy Lim couldn't leave and Popo was bringing Lil Isaac to Chinese class. It was decided that I would grab a cab to pick up the princess. Given that the meeting had just started, I stayed for about 20 mins, making sure that the important points were covered before I tried to get a cab to leave the office. Murphy's law - there will be no cabs when you desperately needed one.

It was at least 15 mins later before I got a cab and Lil Shauna waited for an hour for me. When I arrived at the General Office, she was sitting on a bench by the wall with her school bag on her back and water bottle sling across. She looked very pathetic.  Poor girl.

We took the same cab home. She said that she had a huge headache before recess. It was so bad that she had to tell Ms Teo. I did tell her that if she comes down with a fever again, she has to tell the teacher that she is not feeling well. So good job for telling the teacher this time.

I think it was nearing recess and she was told to go to the General Office. Ms Teo then called me to inform. She didn't even had the opportunity to eat the bread that Popo prepared and was famished. I think the headache was much less intense by the time I fetch her. She seemed very well.

Back home, she was very much alive. She had dinner (alot), watched TV and even play toys while I mugged at my laptop. I see no sign of any sickness. Lol. This time, I told her that if she's badly sick in school, then tell the teacher. If it is a mere headache, then asked for a little rest to see if she feels better - no need to call mummy to pick her. Haha. But I also assured her that if she's really sick, Pappy or Mummy will definitely pick her up.

New milestone, new experience.

Sick Again?!!

It is Lil Shauna again - my healthy girl who doesn't really fall sick.
She started coughing 2 days back. It was a dry cough. Her running nose started on Saturday and her cough got worse despite the medicine that we had been giving her.

Last night, I was awaken by this sudden heat that I felt on my leg. It was the princess' palm. She was burning hot and measuring 39.4 degrees. I gave her bufen and her fever did come down.

Daddy Lim decided that we should bring her to the doctor given that her cough was really bad. She is like coughing every 2 seconds. It was that bad. She measured 38.6 degrees at the clinic and was still coughing and coughing and coughing.  Poor baby. She was also given medicine for cough, running nose, sore throat, fever and antibiotics!  The doctor asked us to bring her back if her condition doesn't improve by Wednesday night. I hope the medicine will make her sleeps better. I asked for drowsy formula so that it would drown out her cough. She indeed knocked out at 8pm.

This virus is really strong. Felicia went down too. Popo is sniffing away and complained of chill 2 days back. I can feel a sore throat coming and Daddy Lim has an itchy throat. I hope Lil Isaac stands strong. Haiz.

Hopefully Finally Recovering

It has been a week since the nasty virus hit Lil Shauna. Every day for the past week, I had been hoping that it is THE day that the diarrhea stops but she kept running to the toilet. For the whole week, she skipped school and whatever enrichment classes (not that I mind but just to stress the seriousness of the illness). We managed to coax the boy to attend school on Friday. He was actually happy to go to school, I guess it beats staying at home. Of course we dangled a big carrot - that he would get a big surprise at the end of the day.

On Friday, Popo called me in the late morning to tell me that there was blood traces in Lil Shauna's stools. I took the news very calmly and I didn't think much of it, guessing that she probably has a tear somewhere. I googled and it looks like the safer option is to visit the doctor. Anyway, we were running out of medicine too.

When I was home, Lil Shauna continued to run to the toilet a few more times and her stools become bloodier each time. On top of that, her pain and discomfort suddenly seemed to magnify and that was when my mummy instinct started to go crazy.

We did bring her to the same clinic (different doctor), who didn't raised even an eyebrow at a mummy's panicky illustration of bloody stools and number of times she went to the toilet. He merely reminded us that it is normal and we needed to keep her hydrated. The doctor did mention that the virus will probably take 1 week to go away, which is today!

Lil Shauna did seem better yday. She went to the toilet 8x and there seem less blood. If you are grasping at 8x, this has been the best by far. Her record during the peak was 21 times in a day! So who can blame the occasion tantrum that she threw? Poor baby. I really hope that she recovers soon (like today). We are all very tired from wiping and washing backside. Haha.

Still Sick Part 2

Lil Shauna is still sick. The fever appears to be subsiding and the intervals between the paracetamol doses have lengthened. We didn't have to resort to brufen yday. However, her tummy is still giving her problems, big problems. Popo said that she complained of tummy ache very often the whole day. The poor girl was also very hungry but started running for the toilet after food. She must have lost weight.

The runs also appeared to worsen in the afternoon and towards the night. She was complaining of tummy ache before bed but there wasn't any more medicine to give her having taken them a few hours earlier. She went to the toilet 2x in the earlier part of the night. I fed her medicine at 11.30pm and that helped her sleeps. At 4.30pm, she woke up complaining of tummy ache and for the next hour, she went to the toilet 5x. She said that she counted and had been to the toilet 20 times. I gave her Smecta, which is supposed to help with the loose tools but held back the medicine which will help to rid wind (and I supposed less wind = less pain), so that Popo has something to give her in the day and they will both suffer less. I presumed that sleeping helps to numb some pain.

The night was torturous and I was zombiefied this morning. This is the 3rd night with very disruptive sleep. Lil Shauna is also tired out with the disturbed sleep but she gets to snooze in the day. At least she was without fever last night, which made running for the toilet less painful for her. On Monday night, she was so tired and sick that I actually found her sleeping on the "throne" during one of the runs. Poor girl.

The girl has skipped school for 3 consecutive day, which I don't find a big deal. Lil Isaac gets to skip school too. He has apparently refused to go to school too. Faint. I am so glad that it is PH tomorrow. I hope the poor girl will feel better with mummy by her side.

Still Sick

Popo called to ask about brufen in the late morning. Lil Shauna's fever has shot up. Popo said that the poor girl had countless runs in the day but she couldn't bring her to the doctor, especially when Lil Isaac refused to go to school and had been monkeying at home the whole day. I was on seminar for these 2 days and couldn't take leave. Daddy Lim had a difficult project and is very much stuck at work. Poor girl had to be home medicated and waited for mummy to come home before she could go to a doctor. Popo shared how Lil Shauna was slump on the sofa in the day while complaining of headache and tummy ache. Boo.

I reached home at 6.30pm and brought Lil Shauna to the doctor via the stroller. Daddy Lim was still very much stuck in the yard. The whole world seems to be sick at the same time as the poor girl. There were 21 people in the q at the 1st clinic that we visited. We went to the usual clinic some distance away and there were 25 people waiting in the 2nd clinic. The 3rd one told us that the waiting time could be up to 2 hours. Lil Shauna didn't look like she could spend 2 hours waiting to see the doctor.  Fortunately, we were the 4th in line at the 4th clinic. By then, I was perspiring and panting. The hot evening was adding on to my agony.

The doctor diagnosed her as stomach flu, just as we had guessed. The medication prescribed were almost what we had at home, including that prescribed to stop the runs. I think we can be doctors already.

Lil Shauna was lethargic for the remaining evening and was sobbing at the different medicines that she had to take but cooperated eventually. She skipped dinner but the runs appeared to continue. She had the runs 2x last night and fever peaked again at 1.30am, which was brought down by brufen. This morning, she was warm to the touch but at least not burning hot. The doctor said that the fever will take another 2 to 3 days to go away completely and the diarrhoea may linger on a little while more.  Poor girl.

I hope that Lil Isaac goes to school today. This will give Lil Shauna some peace at home and Popo some rest. The boy was so active yday and pestering jiejie non-stop to play yday. Haiz.

Sick

We had fun at Happy Willow yday. But Lil Shauna complained of tummy ache after we were home. The next moment, she was coming down with fever. Her fever went up to 38 degrees and I gave her paracetamol but the medicine didn't really manage to bring down her fever. I wonder if I had given her too low a dosage.

She woke up 2 times in the night for the toilet. Maybe she's suffering from stomach flu. Her fever hovers between 38 do 38.5 whenever I measured. I struggled but didnt give her brufen eventually.

I upped the dosage by a little in the subsequent doses of paracetamol that I gave. She was 38.9 degrees when I last measured before I gave her the medicine. Boo.

Poor Lil Shauna was clearly unwell, whinning and tossing throughout the night.  Poor me too. I know she will be in good hands with Popo. I hope Lil Isaac doesn't skip school today - a sick child is more than enuff to handle. It looks like we have to rely on self medication until Daddy Lim or I reach home tonight to bring Lil Shauna to the doctor. The pains of working parents. Haiz.

Sick Girl

*Post written yday

Lil Shauna measured 39.1 degrees at the clinic. The doctor said that her nose is congested, her throat and ears look a little red. He said that it is unlikely to be dengue since dengue usually doesn't come with flu symptoms. He reckoned that Lil Shauna is coming down with a fierce infection.

I gave Lil Shauna bufen at the clinic. She took 2 bites of a hotdog bun and couldn't stomach more. She needed to eat before I could give her the antibiotics.

She was still very lethargic when I sent her home. Poor girl. So long as it is nothing serious, I am good. I hope that she doesn't pass whatever that she has to didi. Oh, we probably have to skip school tomorrow and go just for a simple cake cutting. Her eues were so wide when the doctor told her that she cant go to school tomorrow. Lol. I do hope that she can squeeze herself into Happy Willow on Saturday. Crossed fingers and toes.

Is this the must-have-sick-before-holiday syndrome? Haiz.

Fever

Last night, Lil Shauna complained that she has knee pain. I ignore her cos she's complaining of leg pain every now and then. In the middle of the night, she climbed into our bed and I thought that she felt warm. I was too tired and didn't think much.

This morning, my mum called me to say that Lil Shauna is running a fever and she was measuring 38.5 degrees. Lil Shauna also complained about pain at her knees and on her shoulders. Popo scared me, asking her if she has dengue fever. Wah lau!

When I speak to Lil Shauna, other than the knees and shoulders pain, she also complained of neck and ear pain. I don't know which is the real pain. The fever is very untimely. She has a birthday celebration in school tomorrow and another birthday celebration at Happy Willow on Saturday. We are flying off to Gold Coast this coming Tuesday night!

If it is normal time, I would have just feed her paracetomol and observed her. However, with all the big plans in place and Popo's question if it is dengue, I brought her to the clinic during lunch. Popo said that her fever came down after the medicine but I am taking no chance.

She was still very much active when I picked her. However, her fever came back while at the clinic and she started complaining about headache. She's now curled up and lying on the sofa while we wait, complaining that she's cold and covered in the new dresses that I bought her just now (while she was still feeling good). Poor jiejie.

I am hoping that it is just a viral infection, or even throat/ ear infection. She doesnt have full flu symptoms, just a little dry mucus and some phlegm. It is so strange to be wishing her to have throat/ ear infection but that is definitely better than dengue. Arrrggghhhh.

It has been a long time since she came down with bad fever. It is quite bad, she hasn't been this lethargic due to fever for a while.

Sick

Lil Shauna is sick. She has caught the flu bug from Felicia. I heard her coughing a few days back and is now down with full blown flu. Popo says that she had fever this afternoon and was already given some medicine.

She was still having some low grade fever at the clinic. She was coughing and her mucus flowing. Haiz. But at least she's very much ok with taking medicine, no need to even coax her for taking most medicine.

I hope she doesn't pass on the virus to Lil Isaac. Lil Shauna may be cranky bcos she's sick and throws a little tantrum but she can at least articulate her wants and blow her nose. It will be horrible with a cranky tiger with mucus blocked nose and cannot verbalize his needs. And he hates taking medicine. Nightmare.

Pls get well soon jiejie. Mummy wants to see you perform this coming Saturday. She's performing rasa sayang hei with her class at some community center this Sat. I have never seen Lil Shauna performs and am looking forward to it.

Jiejie is Sick

Lil Shauna started coughing on Tuesday and we didn't think much of it. It sounded very mild. She refused to go to school on Wednesday. Cried buckets and ended up vomiting.

We took her to the doctor on Wednesday evening when we heard her cough that phlegmy cough. She still sounded very much alright. She was given both cough and flu medicine. I know that runny nose is coming but didn't know it would be so bad.

She is down with full blown flu today and started sounding nasal. By the time we are home, she's coughing and sneezing and leaking thick, yellow mucus. Eeeekkkkkkk.... Then again, normally yellow mucus signifies road to recovery. I hope it is soon.

Poor Lil Shauna, she kept coughing in her sleep and her block nose is not making things easier. I hope she recovers soon and I hope that she doesn't pass it to Lil Isaac. Hmmm, isn't it just awhile ago that she was sick?

And I collapsed and concuss early this evening. Daddy Lim tucked her to bed wor. I am so pai seh, had been leaving Lil Shauna to Daddy Lim so very often recently. Pappy, you are doing a great job. Thank you leh, keep up the good work. Love you loads. Muak.

Sick

Lil Shauna has officially fallen prey to the flu bug. She called me to tell me that she has mucus and was coughing and whiney. We went home to a sick toddler who coughed out her lunch during nap. -.o"

We had expected Lil Shauna to be difficult and know that it would be a long night. We fed her the medicine and saw her drifted off to lala land. Though early, we were dead tired ourselves and couldn't keep our eyes open.

I just finished expressing when I saw Daddy Lim dashed out of the room. Lil Shauna coughed in her sleep and vomited the barely digested apples that she had right before bed. Wrong choice, no food before bed for sick kids in the future but she didn't had much appetite and wanted the apples. We thought fruits are good mah. She finished 2 whole big slices of them.

I was surprised to see piles of chunky apples on the quilt cover, bed and her pj. I hadn't expected such a mess. We had to quickly pick up the apples, or what's left of it, changed the quilt cover, bedsheet and Lil Shauna. Disgusting but mummies are the bravest creatures, we brave poo poo and pee and vomit and pi sai and what have you.

I was glad that Lil Shauna drifted back to dreamland fairly quickly but she insisted on hugging my pillow, leaving me pillowless. I still slept anyhow. My Zzz monster was to big to be frightened off by a pillowless bed.

Then, it was multiple waking up in the night to latch, express and attend to the sick princess who cough at times and at other complain of cold and wanted mummy to help her with the blanket.

Lil Isaac probably felt left out and just has to join in the party and woke up again at 5.30am. He probably wasn't hungry cos he fell asleep shortly after I latched him. Then Lil Shauna has to wake up at 5.45am and I bid farewell to that last 15 precious mins of snooze. Good morning zombie head. -.o"

Lil Shauna is skipping school today. We are saving the teachers the agony to have to clean vomit. Popo says that she's active and happily, eating and bouncy at home. We will be bringing her to the doctor tonight, her medicine is depleting and I wonder if it is a different strain of virus, she seldom vomit during flu but has done so countless of times for the past few days.

I hope the virus stay with her and gets eliminated from there. I already heard MA coughing. It is no joke trying to look after kids when one is sick or for 1 adult to handle 2 kids. And please don't pass the virus to Lil Isaac, having 2 sick kiddos is probably close to torture chamber.

Last Woman Standing

Ah yee is the only survival now. Daddy Lim still sound nasal, Lil Shauna is still coughing away but at least no more fever. I am officially down with flu and M is starting to cough. We'll see how much longer ah yee can last.

Lil Shauna is rejecting her antibiotics even when I feed her while she's half awake. Last night, she coughed and e vomited the antibiotics at my 1st attempt. She used her tongue to block the antibiotics when I tried the 2nd time. On my final attempt, she struggled free at my mere mentioned of taking medicine. -.o" I give up liao. I can only pray that she doesnt grow resistant to the antibiotics or she doesnt fall prey to the same strain of virus again. Haiz.

And she is still difficult. We had excepted her to be cranky but not that cranky. God must be using Lil Shauna to help us develop patience and self-control. But bcos she is actually no longer that sick and our patience has grown much thinner over the days, she gets spank or left to cry alot more when she made unreasonable demands or when she threw tantrums. I really hope that she will go back to her usual self soon, really soon. This was actually taken when she was in one of her rare good moods when she was sick. Priceless.

And who else gets it when my patience wears thin? M....
Nope, I didnt scold her cos she's of almost no help to me during these few days. Lil Shauna totally rejects her. Auntie cannot even come close to her. I have totally no idea why is Lil Shauna rejecting M so badly. When we had J, J can at least coax LiL Shauna at times. Now, M can only stand at one corner when I handle Lil Shauna. Sometimes, it is so bad that Lil Shauna doesnt even allow M to be anywhere in her sight. And M had been really free these few days bcos there arent that much housework for her to do. After Lil Shauna kicks up a big fuss this afternoon, I sternly warned M to buck up. I told her that her main responsibility isnt the housework but the princess. I can afford a dirty house and I dun need to spend so much $$ to engage somebody just to do housework. So she will be in big trouble if the princess continues to reject her. I think she did try a little harder at nainai's place but seems to be getting nowhere. We'll see how it goes. Haiz again.

Lil Shauna was still moderately well-behaved at nainia's place but going to nainai's place is starting to lose its purpose. Everybody is glued to the TV when the Taiwanese drama starts at 7pm. We are left to entertain Lil Shauna when we get to do that all the time at home. And she grows restless too cos there's nothing much to play at nainai's place and it is the same usual games that we play. We even left much earlier than we usually did today. Hmm...

Our patience is wearing thin and things are made worse when we are all sick. We will be back at work tomorrow and I hope M can handle Lil Shauna before school tomorrow. Well, she's usually more managable when we are not around. Lil Shauna will finally attend school again after missing school for the last 3 days. :)

As for us, we hope to reatin our sanity. I even have a snaity coffee with Daddy Lim after tucking Lil Shauna to bed. Hohoho.

Update on the Sick Baby

Lil Shauna is still sick but seems to be recovering. Her food intake was reduced to 50% on Thursday and she barely ate any solid food yday. She didnt want her milk and when she finally asked for milk, she didnt finish half. We didnt force her to eat but make sure that she had lots of water.

Her fever was still very much persistant yday. Seeing how she vomited her antibiotics on Thursday evening, I took half a day of urgent leave on Friday morning. I was worried that M cannot handle Lil Shauna and was unable to feed her medicine. On Thursday night, I managed to feed 2 doses of antibiotic to the half awake but otherwise very cooperative Lil Shauna. Phew. The whole night, I was waking her every other hour to either take her fever medicine or antibiotics. Poor baby.

Yday was bad. She was probably still feeling very uncomfortable and was very clingy. Everything must be mummy, including taking tissue paper from the tissue box. -.o" If auntie or ah mah was to do it on mummy's behalf, she will start fussing, whinning, crying, until mummy re-do the tasks. -.o" She totally reject ah mah and auntie. Nobody is to come near her except mummy and mummy is to stick to her everywhere she goes. I seriously think that her crying sensor was spoilt yday. She will start crying the moment I am 10cm away from her. It was bad and very tiring from all the physical carrying, the coaxing to make her eat her medicine or to drink water and the giving in to her unreasonable demands. I was actually looking forward to coming back to work and away from Lil Shauna in the afternoon. But before I could escape, she woke up coughing from her nap, screaming for mummy and rejecting ah mah until she vomited. I had to extend my leave.

By night time, we were exhausted and she too was tired and uncomfortable and cranky and decided to give us a final show-down. She made unreasonable demands, refused to take "no" for an answer and wouldnt stop crying when she cannot have her way. I think she was just very tired cos when she finally stopped, she fell asleep barely 5 mins after I put her down on the bed. -_____________-"

Her fever seems to either go away or mild the whole night. I didnt have to feed her the fever medicine. She cooperatively took her 2 doses of antibiotics in the night. After the 2nd dose, she even told me that the medicine is "smelly, smelly". I duno to laugh or to cry.

I am back at work today. I already instructed M to feed Lil Shauna her flu and cough medicine, which should be quite alright. Those are sweet and she likes them (when not in a bad mood). I am just worried about the fever medicine. Luckily, ah yee is home today. Then, it will be war again when I return home to feed her the remaining 2 doses of antibiotics.

My mum was commenting about how M was super hardworking in doing the household chores yday and trying hard to keep her distance from Lil Shauna. Hahaha. M even asked me in the evening if Lil Shauna is always that difficult when she is sick. I think she is scare of the princess. ;p

Jia you, jia you. The little pincess is recovering. And we have to prepare for her to remain cranky for another few days after she has recovered like she usually is after a big illness.
