Two Down

Lil Shauna is down with cough and flu. She is leaking green, thick mucus. Yikes.

Lil Isaac is down with cough and fever and he has gotten flu from jie jie too. T.T

I have been feeling them so much medicine for the last 2 days - fever, cough, running nose and phlegm.

We are stuck at home. Had to postpone the Botanic date that we had arranged. Zaky missed his Joshua gorgor again.

The only comfort is that the kids are older now and can sleep through the night even when they are sick.

Another Realisation

A very young person that I know met with a traffic accident yday morning. It was a very serious and he is still unconscious currently. In brief, the doctors aren't optimistic and suspect brain dead.

I remember him as somebody cheerful and full of initiatives. He is so full of life and I heard so many good things about him from people who worked with him. It is just so tragic. So sad.

Life is so fragile. Nobody can predict what will happen tomorrow. Life is too short for regrets.

Realization

Someone that I know suffer a stroke this morning. It was very sudden. This is the 2nd person whom I know that fell prey to stroke over the last few months.

Suddenly, it just reinforces the realization that time lost is lost forever. Kids grow up, we grow old. Treasure time, treasure health. It also reminded me of a quote that ah yee posted on her FB some time ago. It says, "10 out of 10 people die, so don't take life too seriously".

It is time for something easier.

Round 2 - Hearing Test

We brought Lil Isaac for his medical appointment with the ENT specialist yday. He had a hearing test before that. The hearing test was really cute. Lil Isaac had earphones on. He was given a whole container of wooden balls shaped like a pin. Whenever he hears a sound, he had to take a ball and put it onto a designated tray. So, it was supposed to be like a game.

He didn't really get it in the beginning. So visual aids were added on. He was tested on the left ear first. When he hears a sound, a toy was showcased under flashing lights and sound towards his left, making him turned. After he was conditioned to look towards his left whenever he hears a sound, the test begins. This time, he turned to see a tv screen that was turned on for 2 sec without sound. The same was done for his right. Such an innovative way. I had so wanted to take pix but restrained myself. I didn't want to look like some crazy parent who is happily snapping pix when her son is facing the possibility of hearing loss.

The hearing test concluded that his hearing for his right ear was normal. The hearing for his left ear was slightly below the norm. After another computer test and check by the ENT specialist, it was confirmed that he still had fluid in his left ear. He had fluid too when he was checked 3 months back.

We were given the option for a minor surgery to remove the fluid or wait and see. We opted for the latter and were given another appointment 3 months down the road. The specialist also mentioned that the slight abnormal hearing in his left ear should not affect his speech. The ENT specialist then wrote us a referral letter to the speech therapist. So, after so many months, we are finally going to be seen by the speech therapist. It is probably going to be another mega wait then. We don't mind if Lil Isaac's speech condition is part of growing up. We just want to make sure that it is not something medical. If it is, then to diagnose and treat it ASAP.

Phew, one hurdle crossed. Round two. Ding, ding!

Genting Last Day

We were all tired but Mummy was still very reluctant to leave Genting for home. Mummy loves holiday and hopes to be on a holiday every other day. Haiz, how I wish Daddy Lim prints $$. All good things have to come to an end.

We packed up, had bfast and sent the kids for 2 hours of fun at their indoor playground. The playground was very much safe and there wasnt much need to chase after the kids. Daddy Lim and I took turns to eye power the kids.

Right after, it was time to take the coach home, a long 6 hours ride. We didnt dare to have lunch, fearing that we would vomit in the coach. The coach was late and it was a mad crowd at the coach terminal. We were so glad when we could finally board the coach to find that there was no entertainment! Luckily, we brought the iPad and Tab2.

Lil Isaac napped shortly after we boarded the coach and had a 2.5hr nap. Phew. The jiejies self entertained with the iPad. When Lil Isaac woke up, there were plenty of "catching" to play and we had to constantly stuff the kids with food. They were hungry and bored.

Our kids were so noisy that I pitied the people who took the same coach as us. To make things worse, Felin was coming down with a virus and wasn't feeling her best and was crying very badly during the second half of the journey. We were so glad when we finally reached our disembarkation point.

We arrived home at 9ish and Lil Shauna helped to unpack the luggage. It was really nice of her and she was a great help.

It was a nice trip overall. The kids had a few tantrums here and there. Daddy Lim too. -.-" I had to constantly remind him that we were on a holiday and should be enjoying ourselves. I felt good throughout the trip. It is too much a waste to spend time sulking and getting angry. However, we were tired the day right after the holiday. There were plenty of tantrums and the adults had limited patience to deal with the tantrums. The kids then get it. Lol. I think this is called the post holiday trauma. And we survived very well without auntie and much help from
Popo. Woohoo!

Genting Day 3

We were all tired on the 3rd day and woke up later than usual. For once, jiejie has to be yanked out of the bed during a holiday.

We had breakfast and headed again to the indoor theme park. Lil Shauna was pretty upset that she couldn't go on the Spinner again. But her spirit lifted shortly when we found a kids friendly roller coaster that she could go on. She went on that roller coaster 3x! My girl is growing up to be a dare devil.

We then went to the indoor heated swimming pool and the kids had a splashing good time. The water was knee high and Daddy Lim happily submerged in the warm water as he eyed power Lil Isaac. Jiejie was happily running around with Fione and Felicia without the need for much supervision.
This pix is a classic. Daddy Lim was enjoying the impact of the water on his shoulders. Lil Isaac saw and immediately imitate his Pappy. So funny. They both stood there for about a min, with water gushing down on Daddy Lim's shouder and on Lil Isaac's "head". Lol.

We had to get Lil Isaac out of the water first as it is easier for me to handle one kid at a time in the bathroom. To coax him, we promised to let him take pix with Dino and friends. Haha, Zaky kena con.
When we finished all that are to do, the girls indulged in their all-time favourite sand art. Lol, they do sand art everywhere!
There was a balloon man making balloons for RM$10 too. Lil Shauna got herself a princess with purple hair and pink dress. Lil Isaac didnt want any. A balloon burst in his hands the day before bcos he was yanking it so much. The revenge of  balloons, serve him right. Hehe.

We went for a few more rides before ending the day.

We went back to the hotel room at about 8pm. The kids dipped in the bathtub, an everyday bath routine before playing some hide and seek and knocked out at about 10pm. Yawnz. The parents then escaped for some fun at the casino. Daddy Lim actually won RM$200 but I lost RM$50 and he spent another RM$25 on an expensive beer. Good night.

Mummy Lim

Genting Day 2

We went to the outdoor theme park the early next day morning. The 1st ride that Lil Shauna hit on was the Spinner. She met the minimum height of 107cm and that was the most exciting ride that she qualified for in the entire park.

All the other roller coasters and exciting rides are for big people, who are at least 122cm tall. Mummy is waiting for Lil Shauna to grow taller to go for the exciting rides. Lil Shauna says that she will eat more chicken, meat and vegetables when she's back home. Lol.

We went for many other rides thereafter.

Lil Isaac managed to get on a few too. The kids went on the rides over and over again but nobody seem to get bored.

The kids had tattoo too. Lil Shauna had a rose and Lil Isaac had dolphins. The tattoos were supposed to last about a week but they were almost gone one day after we come home. I think Popo washed the kids too much. Lol.

Lil Shauna loves the Spinner so much that she went on it again and again. She even got Fione and Felicia to go on the ride with her. She went on it for 4 times, I think. That was her final ride too before the park closes for the day. During one of the rides, she saw this adult letting go, spreading his arms like the wings of an areoplane and she did likewise. Mummy was so worried that she would slip out of the seat and kept yelling at the grinning girl to hold on tight. Lol. For the subsequent days, she asked for the Spinner too and was disappointed when her request was rejected. She loves thrill rides.

The park closed at 6pm. We had dinner and then went bowling in the night. The lanes were lit in UV lights and we had children lanes - lanes where the gutter were blocked. It was really tiring, not the bowling itself but the constant need to pull the kids away from the lanes and from playing with the heavy bowling balls before somebody's little finger or toes get caught.

We finally went back for the day at 10pm and we were all so tired. Daddy Lim and I went for a coffee after the kids slept and a little walk in the casino. A good day.

LOL

We gel Lil Isaac's hair. He had this messy hair look. My brother commented in front of Lil Shauna.

Bro: Wah, Lil Isaac looks so funky.
LS: Yah, Lil Isaac looks like a MONKEY.
Us: Muahahahahaha...

Genting Day 1

The trip to Genting was easy. Lil Isaac had his flu medicine and knocked out shortly after we crossed the Malaysia custom. He didn't even need coaxing. Lil Shauna watched Snow White on the entertainment system and asked to sleep at close to 11pm. She too was tired. She had a school excursion to an indoor playground earlier that morning and had phonics class in the evening before we took the coach. I was surprised that she even asked to watch Snow White.

The kids slept all the way to Genting. They didnt even stir at the rest point when Daddy Lim and I alighted for supper. Haha.

Daddy Lim and I didn't have the best rest but managed to catch some eye shut.

We arrived at Genting at about 4am and checked into a small hotel room. The kids were half-awake but gained energy easily. This is us when we first alighted.

This is after barely 10 mins after alighting. Lol.

We had rounds of running around before we hit the hotel room for another 3 hours of rest. Then, we started our "mission". We bought the indoor theme park tickets and had unlimited access to all the rides. It is interesting how things have changed now that the kids are older. Lil Shauna started complaining how the baby rides are boring. Lil Isaac was very excited over most of the rides.

There aren't many rides in the indoor park and the kids went on the same few rides many times. Lil Isaac tried the bumper car on his own and we were so proud that he knows how to step on the pedal, even though his car barely moved. When it finally did, he ended up turning in circles as he doesnt know how to propery steer the car. Lil Shauna wasnt really keen on the bumper car. She said that it was for boys and she was no better when she finally tried to steer one. Lol.

We took the merry go round too. That was another popular choice and we took that many times during the trip.

Lil Isaac's favourite ride was the little car ride for little kids. He went on that at least 8 times over the 4 days! Sometimes, he took it with one of the jiejies, sometimes on his own.

The queue for that ride was exceptionally short despite the number of kids in the queue. They were all squeezing together. Lol.

Lil Shauna was really keen to take the roller coster. She wasn't tall enuff the last time we were here, which was about a year back. She still isn't tall enuff this time. She did get to watch the 4D shows this time and really enjoyed the show. She's a big kid now and takes big kids' ride.

After a day of fun and the lack of proper rest the night before, we turned in soon after 9pm. We were all too tired. Daddy Lim an I didnt even bother to explore Genting when my mum offered to babysit the kids after they went to lala land. we were dying to go lala land too. Lol.

Busy Day

We are back from Genting and I don't want to be back. I will blog about our enjoyable trip after I sorted out the pix.

Daddy Lim and I were on leave today. Lil Isaac woke up bright and early when his parents were dead tired. We lazed around before heading to JP for BK bfast. Then, we went to the Camden Medical Center in Orchard to visit the orthodontist. As advised by the dentist who last seen Lil Shauna, we fixed an appointment to see how we can treat her "bite" problem - her lower jaw protrudes further than her upper jaw.

The orthodontist barely saw her for 5 mins and shared that Lil Shauna definitely needs treatment but she's too young for the treatment now. She will have to wait for her milk teeth to be replaced, especially the 4 front upper teeth. Otherwise, the problem may re-occur when her adult teeth come out.

Lil Shauna's lower jaw is growing fine, but her upper jaw is growing slower than her lower jaw, which is supposed to be easier to treat than when the condition reverses. The treatment is basically braces on the upper teeth and a face mask to guide the upper jaw to grow faster than the lower jaw. The mask will be put on every night and the treatment will take between 6 to 9 months depending on how discipline we are in observing wearing the face mask. The face mask actually looks scary and we are glad that it is not now. The orthodontist also said that Lil Shauna's condition is not the most severe and still can be treated without a surgery. Ok, we will be back in another few years' time. We are poorer by $85 for that few mins of consultation and the advice to come back 4 years down the road. Win already.

After the dental visit, we headed to MS and Suntec. Mummy had an appointment and Daddy Lim had to man 2 kids with Popo for over an hour. Lil Isaac napped and Daddy Lim survived very well.

Then we came back to JP and caught a movie. Lil Shauna has been bugging Daddy Lim to watch the Oz, despite telling her that there are witches in the show. She went for the Oz movie since she was so insistent. Lil Isaac went for his first movie of his life - The Croods.

Lil Isaac managed to sit still for a big part of the show but I dont think he quite understand the show. I enjoyed the show very much. Lil Shauna was happily relating the storyline after the show. I supposed she sort of enjoys too. I think Daddy Lim will now bring Lil Shauna for more movies, he loves watching movies and we had plenty before the kids come along.

The day didnt end well. The kids were tired and there were plenty of tantrums. Mr Cane had to make his appearance though nobody got caned. The only saving grace is that the tired kids slept early. It is my bedtime too. Good night.

Genting

We are leaving for Genting tomorrow night and will be back on Tuesday. "Excited" is too mild to describe how I feel. This is the first trip this year since our Korea trip and I have waited so long for this. Ooorrhh.. I really do miss Korea.

It is not Genting that I am looking forward to, but the thought that I will be away from routine, from work and from things that are hanging in the air. In addition, I will be with my family, spending good times with Daddy Lim and the kids. I think the kids will have a good time, we will all have a good time.

The bags are packed. It is the first time that we are taking the coach to and back from Genting. Things will work out fine, we will have great fun. Hehe.

Crossroad

Things are a little more firmed now. It is something that I had been thinking about for the past few months and I have finally made up my mind after speaking to Daddy Lim. I am at the cross road once again. This feeling of certainty yet uncertainty brings along anxiety but also excitement.

I don't know how things will develop, but believe that God will watch over me. He has blessed me with much and will continue to do so. Seriously, I have no idea what I want and I don't know how things will develop. I only know that I want to reach the end of this tunnel and then explore the other tunnels after this.

Things aren't as easy as I thought they would be after I started exploring. This sense of uncertainty is intimidating and scared me into wanting to retreat. But, it is probably a matter of time. The thoughts have been getting stronger and stronger and more and more frequent. Something will probably soon trigger again. Let's see how long I will last.

Things will work out somehow. Life is about choices. Yeah!

Swimming Lessons

Lil isaac has joined jiejie in the swimming class. Their swimming classes are on every Saturday noon after Lil Shauna and Felicia's Chinese class. I bet all other parents aren't as crazy as us to let their kids take swimming lesson under the midday sun. Thus, their class consists only of Fione, Felicia, Lil Shauna and Lil Isaac. Haha.

Previously, Lil Isaac waddled in the baby pool while the jiejies have their lesson. Popo often had to intervene when Lil Isaac tried to pull dangerous stunts like jumping into the deep pool or yanked out his float. Popo still have to stand around now to hawk Lil Isaac during his swimming class. However, he actually takes instruction and is pretty obedient during the class. Popo can relax one corner, using only eye power to ensure that he is safe.

I saw him on Saturday taking his lesson and bought him a new pair of googles. He was thrilled to have his new pair just like the jiejies. But i think his head and ears are a little too big for the goggles to fit nicely. Like all kids who don googles for the 1st time, his eyes can barely open and he does look a little funny. Still, he seems to enjoy himself and was proud to be a big boy now. He can blow bubbles too! Our zaky is growing up! Too fast, too fast!

Mummy Lim

Lego Fun

Our Lego collection has grown! As the kids grow older, toys get more limited. Lego and playdohs are good choices for them to grow up with, they are pretty ever-green.

Lego has the new "friends" series, which are actually mini Lego pieces sets. Each set comes with instructions on how to construct. Lil Shauna is pretty good at that. She still need help with the instructions but was able to piece up the pieces. The water shed for the horse was put together by her. Hehe.

CNY 2013

**Super overdue post**

Our CNY holiday was well spent.

We went visitation on Chu Yi. Ever since my paternal grandma passed on and my dad several years back, CNY visitation has become a much simpler affair. We spent about an hour at my eldest uncle’s place. We aren’t close to our extended family and didn’t even get to see some of the uncles and cousins. Then it was to my maternal grandma’s place where we spent another hour. Ah yee is in far, far away Paris. Visitation gets a little bit more boring without her companion.

However, the kids were happy to be dressed up in CNY clothes.

The 5 of them very much self entertained with the toys that we brought. And of course, they very much enjoyed the buffet-style self-service array of cookies and sweets and chocolates and CNY goodies. They couldn’t stop munching and the hosts were all so encouraging, even to mummy. CNY does great harm to mummy’s body – fat! Hohoho. Then, we spent the rest of the day at MIL’s place. Daddy Lim and I very much enjoyed another round of steamboat. I like steamboat. I am missing steamboat already. Lol.

Daddy Lim had to work on Chu Er and he worked late. T.T
I was so glad to see the sun smiling at me after the long rain day on Chu Yi and decided that we would venture out. It is way too miserable to have to stay at home on Chu Er. Sentosa sounded like a fantastic idea to get some sun. We put the kids in the strollers and made our way to Sentosa via MRT. The kids were made to promise to stay in their stroller before we left the house. We usually do not go out with 2 strollers but decided to. Lil Isaac was very cooperative, probably bcos he saw Lil Shauna obediently stayed in her stroller. It was a fantastic choice bcos Sentosa was very crowded. The monorail was jam packed and we took the Broadway and walked to Sentosa instead. The walk was very pleasant, unlike how it was many years ago. The Broadway was totally sheltered and travelator was available almost the entire way. It was cloudy and cool, a fantastic start to a fun day.

Sentosa was full of foreigners, generally the PRCs, Indians and Bangladeshis. I mean, where else can they go? Sentosa is largely free if they stay on the beach. We had wanted to go to the Palawan Beach but realized that some flower display thingy was going on and we had to pay $5 per adult to enter Palawan Beach. There were too many foreigners for comfort and we ended up at the Port of the Lost World instead, which is another fantastic choice. The Port wasn’t crowded and the kids had a wonderful time alternating between the waterplay and the sand.

Auntie wasn’t allowed in the waterplay as she wasn’t properly attired. So I took the opportunity to rest while Auntie watched over them during the sand play. I did have some trouble handling 2 kids initially, didi was scared to do some of the slides that jiejie wanted to do. Jiejie had to give in to didi and stuck to some boring waterplay. However, we got passed that quickly and didi was enjoying slides shortly. Lil Shauna even went to the ”foam party”. Lol.

I was very worried that the sky wouldn’t hold. There were dark clouds hovering over Sentosa but God was good. There was light drizzle on and off, which kept the weather cool. We all had fun and left at 5pm, after more than 4 hours of fun.

We went to Ms Teo’s house on Chu San, in far faraway Tampines. Going back to the East brought back many fond memories and I was pointing out to Lil Shauna where mummy used to study and live. Ms Teo’s place was fantastically nice and cosy, very cottagish, unlike the modernize decoration that we would find in a typical Singaporean’s home. There were great finger food.

The kids had fun playing in one of the rooms and also at the water playground. We didn’t have full force yday but the crowd was just nice.

We left in the evening and headed for dinner at T3 before heading for home. Luckily there was no tantrum on the long car ride. But we already threatened the kids that whoever threw tantrum in the car will be left behind. Lol.

It was an eventful CNY. We are meeting the girls again this Saturday. Yeah!

Parental Voluntary (PV)

The time has come. The application for PV for kids born in 2008 has opened. Daddy Lim and I have been discussing which school to sign up with. Rulang, the super popular primary school is totally out of our reach. We eventually decided on either West Grove (WG) or Frontier (FP).

WG is one of the more established and popular school in JW. I am keen to enroll Lil Shauna with the school. FP opens 2 years ago and Daddy Lim likes new school and new facilities. Moreover, FP is within walking distance from our home. We couldn't come to a conclusion and decided to applied for PV for both school.

After procrastinating for the longest time, we finally submitted the PV firm to WG. The closing date for FP is a little later and we are still sitting on it. Lazy mummy.

Shortly after we submitted the form to WG, we were pleasantly surprised to receive a SMS from the school for a meeting in late March. I managed to speak to the teacher in charge, who happens to be leaving for another school. He was overseeing the PV scheme for the last few years and is helping and handing over to his colleague.

It was good to know that we are shortlisted for PV and the teacher shared that shortlisted parents are seriously being considered. WG is only taking 15 PV this year. They also took in 15 last year, 30 the year before and 40 one more year back. Every year, all students whose parents PVed got in, thus he thinks that the it will be the same for us, emphasizing that the number of PV slots are decided after considering the number of students entering the school at different phases. He thinks that he has made a pretty accurate estimation and there shouldn't be "casualty".

They have shortlisted 14 parents (including us) so far but the application is only closing on 29 Mar 13. They couldnt tell for sure if more parents will be shortlisted. Regardless, we are honored.

If we are indeed selected, we will probably put our kids in WG. This is afterall so much more established as compared to FP. I have managed to convince Daddy Lim. Hehe. Can you sense the kiasu-ness in me? Muahahaha.

Sigh!

Why do people sigh when they are feeling down? I just had a realization.

That is bcos the weight (of the issue) bears down on one, making breathing difficult, making one breathless. When one sighs, one takes a deep breath and goes "haiz". I supposed it helps with the breathing. Bcos that is how I felt.

Well, life goes on. Things will get better. Life is about choices, isn't it? What doesn't kill makes one stronger. I am keeping my eye to the intersection. Things will work out fine.

Poor Lil Shauna and Vomit Blood

No, Lil Shauna didn't vomit blood. I almost did while trying to teach her spelling. I think she was tired and couldn't concentrate. I wasn't the most patient mummy (I never am) after a long and hard day at work. Work is crazy after 3 days at a course. Emails are impossible to clear, in-tray threatens to topple. I had to bring work home after working late. So, you can imagine how patient I was.

I flared when she couldn't remember words that I taught her just yday. I had to threaten her with Mr Cane, which did little to help. She cried at the end and I gave up. There was no point forcing her. It wouldn't and didnt get us anywhere. Poor Lil Shauna.

There is just too little time. Arrgghhh.

Knocked Out

Lil Shauna woke up bright and early at 9am despite not sleeping from 2+am to 5m last night. Geeez, what is she made of?

Lil Isaac was "excited" about the whole episode too and was very "helpful", mainly getting into the way. He too knocked out at 5am and is still sleeping. Must be a very tired boy.
