Still a Prefect

Zaky was selected as a Junior Prefect in P2 and almost lost his appointment in the same year but eventually made it to a full fledged prefect in P3. We often joked how they would select all the naughty kids to be prefects so that they would have to behave and be a role model.

I still remembered how upset Lil Shauna was when she 1st learnt of his appointment. She claimed that she had wanted to be a prefect *all her life* but was never selected. She went on lamenting how blind the school was and how unfair the world is. Lol. We comforted her, telling her that she had a bigger appointment - she was the class monitoress and more than half her class were prefects including the Head and Vice Head Prefects and she monitors over them. No sweat.

Covid-19 made learning a challenge in 2020, let alone CCAs or Zaky's prefect duties. I rarely hear him talks about it for the past year. Then in the beginning of this year, he suddenly told us that he was selected to attend the interview for the prefect execo committee. Huh? I have no idea what did the school sees in him. Then a couple of days later, he proudly told us that he had been elected as the Vice Head Prefect. What??!!!!

I have no idea what he had done to be given the appointment. He can't even remember what he had replied in the interview. I jokingly asked if there were only 3 people in the running and all of them were appointed. Apparently not. Even jiejie is mega proud and congratulated him. She must have forgotten how unfair the world had been to her. My 1st tot was whether the new appointment would be helpful in the DSA, provided that he doesn't lose it in the coming years. Mummy thinks far leh.

Soon, he came home proudly with his prefect vest and badge. He happily pose for me on the 1st day of donning the new vest before heading to school.

What are the new and extra duties? No leh. Nothing seems different.

Y'day, the Vice Head Prefect made me picked him up from school bcos he has a blocked nose. I would have ignored him if not for Covid-19. In these times, a blocked nose is a taboo and the school made me bring him home. He sure looked very healthy to me lest for a couple of sneezes throughout the day.

On the way home, I saw his full prefect gear and couldn't bear to make him let me take some pictures.
Vice Head Prefect or not, he is his mischievous self.

Maybe he is a different Zaky in school or maybe the school sees something in him that we don't. Anyway, for memory sake.

Officially a Prefect

Zaky was selected to be a trainee prefect in P2. At the end of the year, the school will then decide if he meets the cut.

As a trainee prefect, he wears a cute little vest and had his vest confiscated by his form teacher at least 3 times in that year. Hahaha. Yes, usually bcos he was too rowdy and/ or not listening to instructions. We were all very surprised when  we came back telling us about his trainee prefect appointmemt. Lil Shauna even exclaimed her disbelief openly. His teacher had really good words for him about his academic work, leadership and helpfulness during the mid year PTM but of course acknowledged how inattentive he sometimes can be. Haha.

In the beginning of the year, we had a call from school. There was some leadership day camp and the school informed that he is one of the borderline prefects in consideration. We were asked to send him for the camp together with Lil Shauna, who isnt a prefect but some PE and environmental champions. Zaky knew perfectly the kind of predicament he was in.

One recent mornings, right before school, he eagerly fished out his prized Prefect badge and tie. The little boy made it and is of course mega pleased and proud of himself.
The mechanism behind the tie was interesting.

Lil Shauna says that it is a new version; her classmates' prefect tie isnt like that. No wonder it is so new. I remember my prefect tie was passed down from year to year. Ya, I also prefect ok.

1st Official Complaint

Zaky's Chinese teacher called me up yday morning. Yes, his 1st official complaint and it is only February. ^#/"&"£*(!@&#&

The class was asked to sit together on the floor for lesson with their textbook. A boy brought along his pen and was playing with it. Zaky was of course 200% distracted; what can be less interesting than class? When the boy stopped, he asked to play with the pen. When he took out the pen cap, the ink leaked and it somehow stained the shirt of the girl on his other side. Zzzzzzzz.

His teacher said that she will also call the girl's parent to inform what happened and I guessed we might have to compensate a shirt if requested. I was secretly glad that it wasn't some other major property damage or that somebody got hurt. Oh yes, the boy is capable of those.

When we were home, the boy was feeling sheepish but soon started arguing that it wasn't entirely his fault... it never is. He did admit to playing with his friend's pen but he didn't know how the ink got into the girl's shirt. This I believed and think that it is probably more an accident than intentional.

I also sat him down later in the night and asked him if he apologised to the girl. At the same time, warned him against future complaints. He must be feeling guilty bcos he asked for big hugs after the talk, just like how he usually would in his guilty mode.

So, 1st official complaint. How many more to come? His CNL kindergarten teachers have never made any official complaints to me. They did feedback to Popo frequently and to me during the PTM (I rarely attend anyway) about how active and mischievous he was. It was especially tough for him too given that Lil Shauna set such a high standard; always the obedient and model student. She is an angel in school, a total contrast to Zaky's boisterous behavior.

Oh well, I hope he will not get into more troubles. At least he is losing his things less frequently now.
